A 12-year-old girl died Sunday after she was accidentally shot by a younger sibling at their home in Kaysville, investigators said.
“Such events offer a tragic reminder that firearms need to be securely stored in homes, ‘at minimum a trigger lock, at maximum a safe. A safe is your best bet for weapons safety,’ the lieutenant said.
A tweet from the Davis County Health Department Sunday night said: 'We urge all families to lock up firearms and discuss gun safety with children.’”

We already know that guns and alcohol don’t mix – in fact, the U.S. Department of Justice found that more than 40% of people convicted in homicide cases had been drinking at the time of the murder.
But in just the past week we’ve seen more proof points for why guns and alcohol are a deadly combination. Last week a Texas woman was shot and killed by a stray bullet outside a bar in North Georgia. And just yesterday there was a fatal shooting at a nightclub in Columbus, GA that killed a musician.
Just months ago, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed the “Guns Everywhere” bill into law that allows guns to be carried into bars all across the state. The results speak for themselves.
Guns and alcohol don’t mix, and these two horrible tragedies are the most recent examples why.

Tell Kroger: #GroceriesNotGuns
A grocery store is one of the last places we should expect to see someone openly carrying a loaded weapon. But Kroger, the largest grocery chain in the country, has policies that allow customers to openly carry guns in its stores – where families shop every day.
Most states have weak gun laws that let people openly carry guns even if they haven’t had a background check or training. Private businesses like Kroger have the responsibility to protect their customers when the law won’t.
The Real Story of Mass Shootings in America
Press coverage often focuses on the mental health of the shooters, but our analysis shows that only 11% of mass shooters exhibited signs of mental illness prior to the shooting.
We analyzed the 110 mass shootings that occurred between January 2009 and July 2014. In only 12 of the 110 incidents (11%), there was evidence that concerns about the mental health of the shooter had been brought to the attention of a medical practitioner, school official or legal authority prior to the shooting.
