Absolutely ludicrous. That statement just mistakenly justifies a person as a “good guy” giving them the right to take someone else’s life.

Gun safety means to me, making sure as a gun owner that you use your guns properly, making sure they are safety stored, that children don’t have access to your guns, and making sure that you understand how lethal these weapons can be and use every precaution to use them in ways that preserve human life.

I don’t think they are really disputed by the general public, but by a loud vocal minority spreading fear and misinformation about what gun violence prevention really is. We’re talking about preventing gun violence, not controlling anyone’s right to own a gun.

Gun violence can happen anywhere. It affects all Americans whether they be white or black. Gun violence is so pervasive, there is no safe place or safe space. The best we can do is be mindful to not place ourselves in positions where we are more likely to be unjustifiably hurt or gunned down.

MJH: Welcome to our chat! I am so excited to have the opportunity to have a discussion with you all today in preparation for National Gun Safety Awareness Day on June 2nd. This topic is most important to me right now as far as the safety of my kids is concerned because I cannot sit back and watch another child get killed from senseless gun use and storage. I am looking forward to your questions and the opportunity to chat about the changes I think we need to make in this country to keep our littles safe. –Melissa Joan Hart

What is shocking to me how disproportionately people of color are affected by gun violence. That’s very troubling to me. And in particular young, black males.

There’s no one solution to ending gun violence. But background checks are a strong deterrent to keeping guns out of the hands of domestic abusers and convicted felons and the dangerously mentally ill. #AnswerTime
Saturday is the first day of National Gun Violence Survivors Week – when we ask everyone to shine a spotlight on the stories of Americans who have had loved ones taken by gun violence, who have been wounded or threatened with a gun, or witnessed a shooting.
We’ll be sharing the stories of survivors and statistics that highlight the impact of gun violence.
