Early Sunday morning at a Waffle House in Tennessee, DeEbony Groves, Taurean Sanderlin, Akilah DaSilva, and Joe Perez were shot and killed, and several others were injured. This is the sixth mass shooting* in the U.S. in 2018 and the 182nd since 2009.
As information continues to emerge about the Waffle House shooter, deny him fame; don’t use his name. Let’s remember the victims, not the shooter. #NoNotoriety
DeEbony Groves, 21, was a senior on the dean’s list at Belmont University where she majored in social work. Described as “a great role model,” DeEbony was a member of the basketball team and the Tau Nu Delta Sigma Theta sorority.
29 year-old Nashville native, Taurean Sanderlin, was a cook at the Antioch, TN Waffle House. Taurean had worked for the restaurant chain for about five years, and regulars called him “T.”
Akilah DaSilva—also known as “Natrix”—was a rap artist & music video producer for emerging independent musicians & labels in Nashville. One of six children, Akilah is described by his family as compassionate and selfless.
Joe Perez, 20, moved to Nashville from Austin, Texas. He was working as a subcontractor for a relocation & logistics company where he received high ratings from customers. "Our lives are shattered,” his mother wrote on Facebook.
