Kim Kardashian Speaks Out on Gun Violence
Last night on Twitter, Kim Kardashian West spoke out on the horrific Houston mass shooting last weekend where a convicted felon who never should have had a gun, murdered his ex-wife, her husband and their family, including six kids
The Houston shooting is the third time in the last few months that we have identified a dangerous criminal who was prohibited from buying a gun—but illegally obtained a gun through an online sale—and killed their intimate partners or family.
Texas is one of 32 states that allow handguns to be transferred in unlicensed sales, including by anonymous strangers online and at gun shows with NO criminal background check required.
Thank you, Kim Kardashian, for speaking out!
Wow. This South Carolina state senator, who strongly opposes a bill that would make it more difficult for convicted domestic abusers to arm themselves, also had this to say about women this week: http://every.tw/1E5wFGU
3 crime scenes. 4 victims.
Police say a convicted felon fatally shot four people yesterday before turning the gun on himself. One of the victims includes Sharon Kay Berkshire, 39, who reportedly filed a domestic violence case against the gunman.
Yesterday’s tragic shooting is a reminder that a majority of mass shootings involve domestic or family violence.
Yesterday’s murder-suicide in Bell, Florida was the 111th mass shooting since 2009.
According to news sources, a grandfather with a prior criminal record that should have prohibited him from possessing firearms, killed 6 grandchildren ranging in age from 3 months to 10 years old, and his daughter.
At least 42% of mass shooting perpetrators possessed their guns illegally — as this man reportedly did. Our goal is saving lives from gun violence and as Americans we should all be able to agree that the way we’ll do that is through better gun laws.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their family.
Americans want their families safe from firearms violence but legislators have failed to act.
“The morning of December 14, 2012, my students were going to make snowflakes for the upcoming PTA luncheon. Instead, we huddled together, terrified. I read to them and we tried to sing Christmas songs to try to muffle the sounds of 154 bullets blasting through our elementary school.”
